EMC test labs and consultancies in England, by region.
MS Testing holds UKAS accreditation for its EMC, marine type-approval and environmental testing, operating as a division of Mariner Systems (UK) Limited from Newton Aycliffe, County Durham. Marine type-approval work is carried out against IACS E10, EN 60945 and the rules of ten classification societies including Lloyd's Register and DNV, with equipment either shipped to the lab or witnessed in person by clients. The facility includes a purpose-built anechoic chamber for EMC testing alongside environmental and vibration equipment.
GB METECC traces back to 2005, when Peter and Sharon Metcalfe founded it as METECC, an EMC consultancy near Burgess Hill; the business was relaunched under the GBE Technology Group in 2024 as GB METECC (UK) Limited, moving into a purpose-built Littlehampton facility. Its 3-metre semi-anechoic chamber covers radiated emissions from 9kHz to 18GHz and radio testing to 25GHz, alongside conducted emissions, immunity, harmonics, flicker, ESD, surge and transient testing, with an Open Area Test Site for larger items.
Malvern Optical holds UKAS accreditation (schedule 8955) for testing across military vehicles, radar equipment and weapons systems, and separately holds Platform Level TEMPEST accreditation (CPTAS). Based on the former RAF Pershore airfield in Worcestershire, the company runs an EMC screened room and other electro-magnetic and electro-optic test facilities for defence customers across land, sea and air.
Electromagnetic Testing Services holds UKAS accreditation (schedule 4416) with a flexible scope covering commercial and automotive EMC testing, operating from Stebbing, Essex since incorporation in 1992. The lab's work spans commercial, industrial, medical, railway and military product testing alongside EMC consultancy.
AQL EMC traces its UKAS accreditation (number 0018) back to 1982, making it the longest continuously accredited EMC test laboratory in the UK; the company itself was formed in 1988 out of an EMC department with roots in MOD ship and submarine testing dating to the 1960s. Based in Wimborne, it tests to RTCA DO-160 (revisions C-F), MIL-STD-461 (revisions C-F), DEF STAN 59-411 and specialist HIRF/attenuation, RS105, HERO, NEMP and RADHAZ testing, either in its own laboratory or on customers' premises. AQL EMC became part of the Eurofins Scientific group in June 2023 and of UL Solutions in October 2026.
Founded in 1992 by Keith and Pauline Richens, Cranage EMC & Safety remains under family management at its Tern Valley Business Park site in Market Drayton, holding UKAS accreditation number 1833 to ISO/IEC 17025. The lab covers EMC, product safety and environmental testing from pre-compliance through to full compliance, including on-site work for equipment too large to move, across sectors such as rail, medical and industrial equipment.
WEMEC works as an EMC engineering consultancy from its Shefford base, guiding automotive, defence and marine sector products through certification rather than operating a fixed test chamber itself. Services include project management, product validation and on-site assessments, and the company has traded since incorporation in 2013.
Unit 3 Compliance runs an EMC test lab and consultancy from Bradford, West Yorkshire, positioning itself as a lower-cost pre-compliance alternative to larger accredited labs, backed by hands-on troubleshooting and design-for-EMC support. The company advises on CE (EMC Directive and RED), UKCA, FCC and Canadian ICES requirements alongside electrical safety, RoHS and WEEE compliance, and also offers environmental testing such as temperature/humidity and vibration/shock.
CASS Industries specialises in EMC and LVD compliance testing for CE and UKCA marking from its Stockport site, working across British and European harmonised standards. The company has operated as an independent test house since 1994.
dB Technology (Cambridge) holds UKAS accreditation number 9412 to ISO/IEC 17025, plus FCC accreditation (Registration No. 421841), from its Cottenham site, where it runs anechoic and semi-anechoic chambers, a screened room, an open-area test site and an environmental test chamber for EMC and radio-approvals work. Founded in 1988 and incorporated in 1997, the lab tests to CE, UKCA, FCC, ISED and RED requirements across sectors from industrial and medical equipment to household appliances and gaming.
Operating from Paxton's Brighton site, Brighton EMC holds its own UKAS accreditation (schedule 25241) to ISO/IEC 17025, with testing carried out solely at that address. The facility covers emissions and immunity work, including radiated and conducted emissions, ESD, surge, transient/burst and harmonics and flicker, plus pre-compliance scanning, and is used both for Paxton's own products and for hire by outside manufacturers in sectors such as industrial and telecoms equipment.
